The scouts, many of their dads, and I went on a canoeing campout for the past three days near the Great Dismal Swamp–a very fitting name for this area. It rained on us most of the time, but we had a blast and overcame numerous challenges trying to stay warm and dry. The boys were an inspiration for their perseverance, and the leaders for their relentless service in making sure everyone was as comfortable as possible under the circumstances. Camden was a real trooper and helped take care of me during my awful migraine on day 2. I can’t wait for the next adventure with these guys!
Can you find which reading activity (marshmallow) Eden chose on her own?

Camden is well prepared for crazy-hat day at school.
Update: He won the award for best hat in the sixth grade 🙂
Camden built a small website for the Communications merit badge. He selected knife reviews as his topic. Check it out at http://camdenfsmith.tumblr.com
Sierra made quite the gingerbread train at her friend’s house earlier today.
Sierra and I had a great time at the Renaissance Fair near Charlotte last weekend. I was amazed at how many people attended, many in full costume. Renaissance was interpreted very broadly as the theme, as we saw a lot of pirates, elves, and pretty much anything from Middle Earth or King Arthur’s court. Definitely worth the two-hour drive.
Ember had a good campaign for student council VP this month. Though she didn’t win the vote, she was elected to be her class’s council reprisentative. Yay Ember!
Camden and I had a blast rock climbing and rappelling with the scouts at Pilot Mountain last weekend. Such a beautiful day.
