A milestone for my car. Still runs like new. Looks mostly new minus all the scratches from sharing a garage full of children’s bicycles.

Sleepy Princess
Cute idea from Camden’s new primary teacher.
80’s Party
Erika and I attended a fun 80’s birthday party a few weeks ago at the home of our friends, the Merrills. The girls mostly dressed in variations of a crimped Cyndi Lauper theme, while the guys’ costumes ranged from hair metal to punk to yuppie. Me, I picked up a skinny tie for $1.40 at Goodwill and rolled my sport jacket sleeves to get something like a Miami Vice look going.
Interesting how my notebooks consistently last about a year.
Sierra and I styled each other’s hair at a church activity this evening.
Lake Lure
Even though we’ve lived in North Carolina more than four years now, our family hadn’t spent time in the western mountains before last week. We rented a cabin for six days on Lake Lure, just east of Asheville, where Dirty Dancing and Last of the Mohicans were filmed.
We were greeted on our arrival Sunday night by a bat in the cabin, who lost an epic battle and was cast out into the night–mostly unharmed. The week was full of relaxation and adventures, including hiking, kayaking, fishing, swimming, and a visit to America’s largest home, Biltmore. Our rustic cabin featured a pool table and brook in the back yard. The kids enjoyed roasting marshmallows and playing with animals.
